Two falls, two causes
At Cuba Libre in Clarke Quay, a standing display was pushed over and hit the floor. At Tanah Merah Country Club, a standing display on the open-sided terrace was blown over by strong wind.
What the tempered glass did
In both cases the tempered glass front shattered. Tempered glass is made to break into small, blunt pieces rather than large, sharp shards, which is why we fit it as standard on our standing displays.
What survived
Behind the glass, the LCD panels still worked. We only needed to replace the casing. Both standing displays went back into service with their original panels.
How long it took
About 4 to 6 weeks. The casing is large, so it is best shipped by sea. If a client needs a screen while waiting, we can lend one for a limited period; the client covers only transport and manpower. Neither of these clients needed one.
What we changed
In semi-open spaces, wind is a real risk. We now check every site for strong wind before recommending where a standing display goes, and where wind is a risk we anchor the display to a pole.
What this means for you
- Choose tempered glass for any screen in a busy area.
- Tell us if the spot is open to wind, or where people may knock into the screen.
- If something does happen, the screen can often be repaired rather than replaced.
